Our Community: The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation

KMSC gives back to the community through sponsorships, charitable donations, and volunteer contributions. This community series of blog posts highlights some of our lawyers’ pro bono contributions to local organizations.  We start with Todd Strang‘s  role as a trustee on the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation.

Board of Trustees

I have been involved with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation since 2011. I became a Trustee of the foundation after one of KMSC’s partners, Jason Forbes, finished his term on the board.

In 2016 I became the Treasurer of the Foundation,  a position which I held until the spring of 2018 when I was nominated and elected as Vice-Chair.

The Foundation’s trustees come from various backgrounds including legal, accounting, health care and private industry. It is a privilege to work with talented individuals who share my passion to help give back to the local community.

The Foundation’s Mandate

The Foundation was established in 1984 and since that time has played a critical role in funding essential specialized equipment, major projects, patient care programs and education in the region. Trustees are entrusted to manage the Foundations assets to fulfil its mission.

The Foundation has purchased numerous pieces of equipment for the Grande Prairie hospital over the years which has had the effect of more services being delivered to patients in the local area. This has resulted in many patients and their families having their health care needs served in the local community versus having to travel 450 km to Edmonton. It also has the effect of reducing financial burdens on families, reducing wait times, attracting new professionals and  improving patient recovery and in some cases saving lives.

The Future of Grande Prairie Regional Hospital

The Foundation is currently involved in a major Capital Campaign which aims to raise $20 million to help meet the Foundation’s objectives. I’m proud to be involved with the work of the Foundation and hope that I can help contribute to its future success in our community.
