Shawn was born in Peace River and grew up on a farm near Tangent, Alberta. After completing grade school, Shawn attended Northwestern Polytechnic (formerly GPRC) in Grande Prairie before moving to Edmonton to complete his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Alberta.
Shawn has over 20 years of civil litigation experience; appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta; conducted mediations, Judicial Dispute Resolutions and Trials; and has negotiated settlements in hundreds of legal claims.
Prior to joining KMSC, Shawn’s practice focussed on insurance defence work involving personal injury (motor vehicle, ATV, slip and fall, equestrian and livestock, and pharmacy negligence claims), property losses, construction deficiencies, wrongful dismissal, professional liability and insurance coverage disputes. Shawn’s experience working with insurance companies for over two decades provides him with a unique and valuable insight into how they investigate, assess and resolve claims, which he now uses to negotiate settlements that provide his clients with all the compensation they are entitled to following a motor vehicle accident or other injury incident.
Shawn has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 2001 and the Law Society of Yukon since 2015. He is also a long-standing member of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association (ACTLA) and the Canadian Bar Association (CBA).
In his spare time, Shawn enjoys travelling with his family, hiking and binging the latest Netflix series. Shawn has been active in his community over the years and is currently a regular volunteer with the Edmonton Food Bank.
